32nun Aristomachos, der diesen Ehrgeiz für das Volk übernommen hat,
33diesen bewahrt und allen Athenern wohlwollend ist
34und stets die beste Erinnerung an die Freiheit
35des Volkes pflegt zu jeglichem Zeitpunkt;
36und als das Volk (der Athener) und die Stadt der Argiver
37gemeinsam im Krieg gegen Alexander, den Sohn des Krateros, standen
38und die Gelegenheit sich ergab, dass die Argiver für eine kleinere
39Geldsumme für sich einen Waffenstillstand bekämen
40und Alexander Frieden geben wollte, er sich nicht dazu verstand,
41sondern, indem er aus eigenen Mitteln fünfzig Talente
42dazulegte, er einen gemeinsamen Frieden für beide Städte
43bewirkte; er auch im übrigen Sorge trägt allgemein für
44das Volk als auch speziell für diejenigen Athener, die nach Argos kommen,
45nach Kräften; er ankündigt, auch für die Zukunft

32Aristomachos then has taken up and maintains
33the love of honour for the People and is of good will to all Athenians
34and has continued to be mindful of the freedom
35of the People in the most effective way at every opportunity;
36and when a war occurred involving the (Athenian) People and the
37city of Argos against Alexander son of Krateros,
38an opportunity arose for the Argives to make a truce
39for themselves at minimal expense, and although
40Alexander was offering peace, he (Aristomachos) did not think that this should be, but
41providing an additional fifty talents from his own funds
42he made the peace common to both cities;
43and in remaining matters he looks after in whatever way is possible
44both the People collectively, and individually Athenians who arrive
45at Argos, and promises for the future
